Canberra celebrates national organic week - Jon Stanhope, MLA
Canberrans interested inorganic food, products and gardens are encouraged to get along to a series of events being held this week as part of National Organic Week. In launching the week, Chief Minister Jon Stanhope said the organic sector has many health and environmental benefits to the community. "National Organic Week is a great opportunity for Canberrans to learn about the health and environmental benefits of eating organic food and using organic products," Mr Stanhope said.
"Organic farming has many environment benefits because it doesn't use artificial fertiliser or synthetic chemicals and has a focus on conserving energy, soil and water. "Both certified and conventional farming practices produce healthy options however by eating certified organic foods you can minimise your consumption of pesticides even [...].
