Concern over Iran sends oil prices up

SINGAPORE - Oil prices jumped above US$126 ($173) a barrel yesterday in Asia on concern a showdown over Iran's nuclear programme could threaten crude supplies out of the Middle East. US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said on Saturday the United States would have no choice "but to begin again to prepare sanctions resolutions for the (UN) Security Council" if Iran did not halt the development of its uranium enrichment programme.
