Film Gold Coast

Gold Coast City features Centre Stage.   Following a successful filming year that included box office hits Nim’s Island, Fools Gold and the recent Indian blockbuster Singh is Kinng, Film Gold Coast has released a comprehensive film guide to entice future productions to the region. All three productions were filmed on the Gold Coast, contributing to the 21 feature films and 24 television series recorded in Gold Coast City during 2007/08.

Gold Coast City’s popularity as a film destination for national and international television and feature film productions is consistently growing due to the diverse locations, world class crew and stage facilities available. Film Gold Coast chair Lynne Benzie said the recent addition of the new under water tank facility, which is the biggest in Australia, also makes the Gold Coast even more attractive to film productions. “Gold Coast City has accounted for 75% of all production in Queensland over the past decade and we are the third largest production centre behind Sydney and Melbourne,” said Ms Benzie.

“It’s certainly a boom industry for the Gold Coast and provides a great boost for the local economy. In fact, every $1 million spent on Gold Coast City film production results in 22 full time positions created for the local workforce.” Film Gold Coast was established this year in recognition of the growing need for a dedicated representative body in the area. An initiative of Business GC, Film Gold Coast has played a key role in promoting the City and attracting significant productions to our shores.

They offer a value-add service to the Pacific Film and Television Commission by assisting with enquiries relating to filming and coordinating in-bound delegations of film executives seeking local information. Film Gold Coast’s release of the filming directory and DVD will assist productions with information on every aspect of filming in Gold Coast City and includes details on facilities, services, locations and local filming policies. “We’ve really aimed to provide a one-stop-shop for film producers,” said Ms Benzie.

The guide is complemented by an online directory to enable production companies to get in contact with local crew and production staff directly. The film directory and DVD have been distributed nationally and internationally to film producers and location scouts, specifically targeting audiences in India, South Korea and the USA. Film Gold Coast’s portfolio includes a number of high profile international productions such as Nim’s Island, Daybreakers, Fools Gold, Singh is Kinng, The Condemned, See No Evil, Aquamarine, Peter Pan, Great Raid and Scooby Doo.

Australian productions, H2O and Sea Patrol, will also film on the Gold Coast in the coming months. www.filmgoldcoast.com.au.
