Tokyo stocks decline after making heady gains a day earlier

HONG KONG (MarketWatch) -- Asian markets declined early Wednesday, with Japanese stocks dropping on shipping firms such as Nippon Yusen K.K. and property firms like Mitsui Fudosan Co. on worries about a slowing global economy.

The Nikkei 225 Average fell 0.7% to 9,381.73, a day after it surged a record 14.2%, while the broader Topix index slid 1.4% to 942.52. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 lost 1.5% to 4,271 and New Zealand's NZX 50 index gave up 1.1% to 2,916.97. South Korea's Kospi dropped 2.1% to 1,338.46.
